I think the best interiors are created around items you love, like a collection or vintage artwork. These pieces can be an affordable way to inspire a room makeover. Sometimes it's hard to decide how to decorate a room, where do you start? As a professional designer I can tell you don't pick your paint color first. If you do you could spend months trying to find fabrics and accessories that will go with it. There are thousands of paint colors to choose from, it's much easier to pick paint after you have a focal point for the room. Even selecting fabrics can be difficult, again so many choices. I think one of the best ways to design a room is to start with artwork. Art is very personal, it sets the mood for the room. From traditional to contemporary you can select a piece you love and build the room around it. Pull your color combination from the artwork. Deciding on fabric texture and pattern is much easier when you have art to influence the shapes, patterns and colors. A painting can pull together several unusual colors that you would never think to use. Don't be overwhelmed if there are several colors to choose from, selecting three, one a little more muted for the walls and two accent colors to be used for fabric, trim, furniture, and accessories. The most important part of decorating your home is selecting items you love to see everyday. Decorate the room to compliment these and you'll have a home that is uniquely yours, and one that you're proud to share with family and friends......................Jolene
